 Dental Benefits

Are you unsure how your health fund works regarding dental coverage? Do you need further explanation to help maximize your health fund benefits as they apply to dental cleanings or other dental procedures you may need? Health fund terminology can be tricky, so it’s essential to understand how to get the most out of your policy.

When Does Your Health Fund Allocated Amount Expire?

If you have an allocated amount of dental coverage through your health fund, that amount will either expire at the end of the calendar year (31 December) or the end of the financial year (30 June). You will need to check with your health fund provider to see when your benefits reset for the next year, as well as your total available benefit amount. Each health fund is different, so the amount of dental coverage will vary from company to company.

Do You Lose Your Benefits if You Don’t Use Your Benefits?

The critical thing to remember is that if you don’t use your dental coverage benefits before the end of the calendar year or financial year (whichever applies to your particular health fund), you will lose access to those benefits. To ensure you don’t lose your benefits, it may be best to schedule now for dental cleanings or other dental treatments you may need. Keep in mind that dental cleanings must be at least six months apart to qualify through your health fund, so the timing of your visit to our dental clinic is important as well.

Will My Dental Benefits Increase Over Time?

Depending on your health fund, your dental benefits may change over time. Some health funds have the same annual limits each year, while others may reward loyalty from their members with a yearly increase in benefits. It may be worth it to compare health fund benefits from year to year.
