Taking your child to see the dentist from an early age is essential to their oral health. Our dental clinic encourages parents to bring their children for their first dental appointment by the time they turn one. This helps familiarise them with the dental clinic and allows us to check their development.
So, what can you expect during a paediatric dental check-up from Lumino Smiles? Keep reading to learn what you need to know.
Paediatric Dentistry: What to Expect during a Dental Check-up
When your child is seven, we recommend an orthodontic evaluation to minimise the need for more extensive treatment later. By evaluating your child for orthodontics (braces), we can potentially eliminate the need for dental extractions due to poor bite alignment.
Another service we provide during a paediatric dental check-up involves evaluating your child for issues with their temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and any indication that they are grinding their teeth. Our dental clinic provides both TMJ and bruxism treatment, which can decrease the likelihood of other health issues.
Your child’s dental check-up will include the following steps:
- First, we will make sure your child is comfortable and allow them to ask questions about the dental instruments and what will happen during their visit.
- If your child needs x-rays, we will gather those images, explaining what we’re doing to your little one.
- Then, one of our hygienists will clean and polish their teeth, removing plaque and tartar. We try to make this process fun and educational for your child.
- Once their teeth are clean, we will provide a fluoride treatment and may apply sealants.
- Finally, we will comprehensively examine their teeth, gums and mouth and create a treatment plan if any further procedures are needed.
